KA-CARE is Saudi Arabia's government body responsible for developing the country's nuclear and renewable energy programmes. Saudi Arabia finalised technical specifications for its first large-scale nuclear power plant in late 2025. The US and Saudi Arabia completed civil nuclear cooperation framework negotiations in November 2025. KA-CARE is assessing multiple SMR technologies for electricity generation, water desalination, and hydrogen production. The IAEA conducted its first-ever IMSAS mission in Saudi Arabia in May 2025. KA-CARE earlier conducted SMR feasibility studies with Jordan's JAEC and is in discussions with multiple global nuclear vendors.
