China Huaneng Group is China's largest state-owned power generation company and the lead operator and majority owner (47.5%) of the Shidaowan HTR-PM plant — the world's first commercial pebble-bed reactor, which entered commercial operation December 6, 2023. China Huaneng operates the plant alongside China National Nuclear Corporation subsidiary CNEC (32.5% owner and EPC contractor) and Tsinghua University's INET (20% owner and technology developer). China Huaneng is also developing the larger HTR-PM600 (650 MWe, six reactors) as the commercial successor to the HTR-PM demonstration plant.
