CNNC operates China's HTR-PM pebble-bed reactor (commercial since December 2023) and is constructing the ACP100 Linglong One — the world's first land-based commercial SMR under construction. China is rapidly deploying SMRs with strong government backing, significantly ahead of Western counterparts in actual construction. CNNC is also developing the CAP1000 and next-generation designs. CNNC is China's major nuclear utility and developer and the parent company of China National Nuclear Power Co Ltd, which operates the Xudapu Nuclear Power Plant; it developed the Chaotan One supercritical CO2 waste-heat power generation project through its Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC).
