The Defense Innovation Unit is a DoD agency that launched the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations programme with the Army and Air Force in 2024 — selecting eight vendors in April 2025 including Antares Nuclear, BWXT Advanced Technologies, General Atomics, Kairos Power, Oklo, Radiant, Westinghouse Government Services, and X-energy. DIU bridges commercial technology and military application, and its nuclear programme represents the most significant US military microreactor procurement initiative in history.
