Orano is a France-based nuclear-fuel-cycle company whose activities span uranium mining, conversion, enrichment, recycling and reprocessing of used fuel, nuclear logistics and packaging, decommissioning, engineering, and nuclear medicine. It is not primarily an SMR reactor designer; for small and advanced reactors, it provides front-end and back-end fuel-cycle services, including LEU and HALEU supply, fuel handling, transport, storage, spent-fuel management, recycling, and related engineering. On 2026-05-21, the U.S. NRC accepted Orano's Project IKE licence application for accelerated review, advancing a planned $5 billion gas-centrifuge uranium-enrichment facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee that is backed by a $900 million DOE award and intended to produce domestic LEU.
