GE Hitachi is developing the BWRX-300, a 300 MWe boiling water reactor designed to slash capital costs by up to 60% per megawatt versus traditional reactors using 50% less concrete and steel. The design uses natural circulation and passive cooling. Active in Canada (Darlington), Poland, Romania, and the US (Clinch River TVA project). Received £33.6 million UK government grant in January 2024.
