Nuclearelectrica is Romania's nuclear-power company, operating Cernavoda Units 1 and 2 and manufacturing natural-uranium CANDU 6 fuel bundles through its FCN Pitesti branch. Its core technology focus is the CANDU 6 heavy-water reactor, including plant operation, fuel production, Unit 1 refurbishment, and planned additional units at Cernavoda. On October 8, 2025, it signed agreements with EDF Group subsidiaries to advance the Unit 1 refurbishment and Lutetium-177 medical-radioisotope production at Cernavoda. Nuclearelectrica operates the two-unit Cernavodă CANDU plant (1,400 MW combined), Romania's largest electricity source, and is the 50% state-sector co-owner of RoPower Nuclear alongside Nova Power & Gas (E-Infra). On February 12, 2026 its shareholders approved the FID for the Doicești NuScale VOYGR-6 project, six 77 MWe modules at the former coal plant site 90 km northwest of Bucharest, and it is also pursuing a second unit at Cernavodă (CANDU refurbishment and Units 3/4).
