Nuclearelectrica is Romania's state nuclear power company operating the Cernavoda nuclear power plant — the only operational nuclear plant in Romania. As the 50% owner of RoPower Nuclear joint venture, Nuclearelectrica's shareholders approved the Final Investment Decision for the NuScale SMR project at Doicești in February 2026 — the first European FID on a commercial SMR. CEO Cosmin Ghiță described the FID as positioning Romania "on the international map of the nuclear industry."
