Southern Company is one of the largest US electric utilities and the parent of Alabama Power, Georgia Power, and Mississippi Power. The company completed the Vogtle 3 and 4 nuclear units in Georgia — the last two new conventional nuclear plants built in the US. Alabama Power (Southern subsidiary) is one of the US utilities targeted in the March 2026 US-Japan $40 billion BWRX-300 partnership. Southern Company operates the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant in Alabama providing existing nuclear operational experience.
