RoPower Nuclear is the Romanian project company established by Nuclearelectrica and Nova Power & Gas to develop the Doicești small modular reactor power plant. The project is based on NuScale's 77-MWe pressurized-water-reactor module, with six modules planned to provide 462 MWe at the former Doicești thermal-power-plant site. On 2026-07-15, Nuclearelectrica reported that conditions attached to the conditional final investment decision remained unfulfilled, so RoPower Nuclear and Nuclearelectrica continued work with NuScale and the Romanian government rather than advancing unconditionally to the next phase. RoPower is the joint venture established to build, own and operate Romania's first SMR plant, six 77 MWe NuScale VOYGR-6 modules at the former Doicești coal plant site in Dâmbovița County, equally owned by Nuclearelectrica SA and Nova Power & Gas (part of E-Infra Group). Shareholders approved the FID on February 12, 2026, making it Europe's most advanced SMR project. US financing support includes an EXIM Bank loan of $98 million (2024, pre-project services), a DFC letter of interest for up to $1 billion and an EXIM Bank letter of interest for up to $3 billion for deployment; FEED 1 and FEED 2 (Fluor, Samsung C&T) are complete.
